What gets accounts lost is the seller keeping a way back in: the original email, a linked social login, or a recovery method you never see.
That is the whole game. An account you fully control is safe. An account where someone else still holds the email is a rental that can end whenever the seller decides.
The one thing to check before paying
Ask a single question: do I get the registration email itself, and can I change its password?
If the answer is anything other than a clear yes, walk away. Screenshots of the roster, hero lists, gem counts — none of it matters if you cannot lock the door behind you.

There is no detection for a sale itself. Accounts are lost when the previous owner keeps access to the registration email and recovers it later, which is why taking ownership of that email first matters more than anything else.
